Yesterday I decided to have a go at installing the new exhaust on “ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ” my SV650. I’d been hesitating for a while for two reasons. First off I didn’t really want to hack off the stock exhaust, I’m really used to cars so the idea of a new exhaust not simply bolting up to existing flanges was kind of alien to me. Second, I didn’t want to make the bike too loud, lord knows my neighbors !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Anyway, last night I “finally hit fuck it” and took a trip to my favorite toy store for some new kit.
Gotta say, in hindsight I wish I’d gone with the larger electric model but I have air so generally try to prioritize that over other types of tools. I am so glad I didn’t attempt with a hacksaw though. That would have taken forever!
After some awkward cutting angles and cursing due to my pigheaded refusal to remove the exhaust and cut on the bench, I finally cut the last piece holding on the scratched to hell, heavy, ugly stock muffler. I actually didn’t realize there were two concentric pipes so I actually had to cut the whole perimeter twice.
Anyway, really glad to see this thing go away, it was the last big piece left over from my crash last year and the bike looked a lot worse for it. Looks way better now!
Mandatory ricer fly by video!

Plus, if you ever decide you want a little more loudness, you could always bulldog the muffler. Looks sharp!

I’ll show you ricer flyby!

Or I could just run an open collector :P
I may or may not have started it right after hacking off the old muffler.

I ran mine like that for 2-3 weeks. It really is too loud. Plus you lose a noticable amount of mid range with it.

1: i did mine with a hack saw. 3 hours later....
2: finally you have a pipe
3: you need a blue belly pan....

Oh god, I thought it took forever with the air saw at 25 minutes!
Yep, got tired of not being able to hear my shift points at the top of 4th and 5th over wind noise :p
Nahh, no belly pan for me, one of the draws of a naked bike is being able to do an oil change in a parking lot with only two tools. Plus, I’d rather go with an aluminium skid plate to make it look more supermoto-ish!

True...this is the setup I run on mine. I added a fuel processor because lean=hot:
Sounds pretty good at full wick ;-)

You only need two tool with the pan. Seriously, i dont need to take off my lowers to do my oil changes

Sounds good!

But that’s an extra 35 seconds I’ll never get back. Over the life of the bike that might be over FIVE MINUTES! And since time has value, that belly pan would end up costing me at least $4 in missed opportunity cost >:(

what 35 seconds? it actually doesnt take any extra time LOL. I’ll even video it for you later :D

Wait, you’re telling me I can get at the filter with a belly pan installed without any additional disassembly or hassle?

Yep. If its anything like the full lowers. I dont touch the fairings at all.
